Tranexamic acid is a medication used commonly to help control bleeding, especially in women who suffer from heavy menstrual (period) bleeding, known as menorrhagia.
Tranexamic acid should not be taken if any of the following apply: - Any blood in the urine - Any history of visual disturbances - Irregular period (menstrual) bleeding which has not yet been investigated - Any individual with a history or family history of blood clots (e.g. DVT or Pulmonary Embolism) - If you are also taking any form of hormonal contraceptives - Any individual suffering with or a history of kidney damage or reduced kidney function - Any history of convulsions - Any previous allergy or hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid
Directions: Take TWO tablets three times daily for a maximum of FOUR continuous days. Start taking on first day of bleeding during menstruation (period). Maximum of SIX tablets to be taken per day.
Tablet core: Tranexamic acid 500mg, Cellulose microcrystalline, povidone (K 90), croscarmellose sodium, silica colloidal anhydrous, talc, magnesium stearate; Film coating: methacrylate polymers, titanium dioxide (E171), talc, magnesium stearate, macrogol (8000).
Tranexamic acid has very few common side effects, some of these include: Common: - Diarrhoea - Nausea - Vomitting Uncommon: - Allergic dermatitis Refer to the patient information leaflet for more detailed guidance around side effects.
